Maude

Maude aired on CBS from September 12, 1972 through April 22, 1978. Bea Arthur plays Maude Findlay, a middle-aged, liberal woman living in Tuckahoe, Westchester County, New York with her fourth husband, Walter Findlay. Maude supported legal abortion, civil rights, racial equality, and women's liberation. She consistently voted for Democratic Party candidates. Her assertive and occasionally dictatorial demeanor placed her in difficulty when speaking up. Maude was a spin-off of All in the Family, where Beatrice Arthur played Edith Bunker's niece Maude. Like All in the Family, Maude contained topical plots devised by Norman Lear. Several episodes featured only Maude and Walter, in half-hour "two-hander" teleplays. Bea Arthur performed a soul-searching monologue to an invisible psychotherapist in "The Analyst"
