Porridge

Porridge is a British situation comedy that aired on BBC1 from 1974 to 1977. It lasted three seasons, two Christmas specials, and a feature film of the same name. It starred Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale as two inmates at the fictional HMP Slade in Cumberland, and was written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. Porridge was once the typical breakfast in UK jails, and "doing porridge" is British slang for serving a prison sentence. Going Straight, a 1978 sequel to the series, established that Fletcher would not be returning to prison. Porridge was ranked number seven in a BBC survey of the top 100 British sitcoms in 2004.
