POV is a public television series on the Public Broadcasting Service that features independent nonfiction films. Point of view is abbreviated as POV. POV is the longest-running television program dedicated to independent documentaries. Since1988, PBS has shown 14 to 16 POV programs annually, and the series has debuted more than 300 films to U.S. television audiences. The films of POV have a strong first-person, social-issue concentration. The POV series has featured the work of a number of renowned directors, including Michael Moore, Jonathan Demme, Terry Zwigoff, Errol Morris, Albert and David Maysles, Michael Apted, Frederick Wiseman, Marlon Riggs, and Ross McElwee. Throughout its twenty-plus years on television, the series has earned both critical and industry praise. POV programs have also won prestigious industry accolades, including three Oscars, thirty-two Emmys, thirty-six Cine Golden Eagles, fifteen Peabody Awards, eleven Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Awards, the Prix Italia, and the Webby Award.
