The story is set in a fantastical universe populated by humans, Dragonoids, and Monsters. The three races coexist in relative harmony. Additionally, there are Drops, which are spherical things that emerge from the planet and can be used to recharge the Monsters. Humans and Dragonoids with the ability to see the Drops can take on the job of Dragon Callers, bonding with monsters. The world is currently undergoing Drop Impacts, which occur when a high number of Drops are formed abruptly in a single region (and can possibly spread), wreaking havoc on the lands and driving the Monsters insane. Indeed, one of Dragon Callers' primary responsibilities is to resolve Drop Impacts through the stabilization of the Drop distribution. Ace is the son of King (a powerful Dragon Caller who mysteriously vanishes at the start of the book), and Rena, who desires to be a Dragon Caller like her father. His journey begins when he begins to see the Drops and discovers an egg of a Tamadra, an almost extinct species, and he relocates to Dragoza, a location that was previously inhabited only by Dragonoids but is now populated by a large number of Dragon Callers. As the book progresses, he develops friendships with Charo and Tiger, as well as a large number of other Dragon Callers, all the while honing his talents and expertise. Additionally, there are the Ancients, who are a hybrid of Dragonoids and Humans and serve as the leaders of Dragoza's six areas. Lance, a Dragonoid and a powerful Dragon Caller, is continually encountering Ace (though not as an opponent) and believes that the Dragonoids will save the Earth. The series is mostly focused on the cause of Drop Impacts; Ace, his pals, and a large number of people are tasked with determining the source of the Drop Impact and attempting to preserve the planet. Meanwhile, they must contend with Dragonoids in Dragoza, who are oppressing Humans, believing that their race should be the only ones allowed in Dragoza, the only ones permitted to be Dragon Callers, and the only ones capable of saving the planet.
