Quark is a science fiction situation comedy starring Richard Benjamin that aired on NBC in the United States. The pilot aired on May7,1977, and the series premiered in February 1978 as a mid-season replacement. In April1978, the show was cancelled. Buck Henry, co-creator of the spy parody Get Smart, invented Quark. The episode was set in the year 2226 aboard a United Galaxy Sanitation Patrol Cruiser, an intergalactic waste scow based at United Galaxies Space Station Perma One. The main character, Adam Quark, works with his trusty and eccentric team to clean up rubbish in space by collecting "space baggies." Quark parodied science fiction films including Star Wars,2001: A Space Odyssey, and Flash Gordon throughout its brief career. Three of the episodes were direct parodies of Star Trek. The episode "All the Emperor's Quasi-Norms, Part2" received one Emmy Award nomination for costume designer Grady Hunt's work. On October14,2008, the entire series was released on DVD.
