Rocko's Modern Life is a popular animated television series that was developed in the United States by Joe Murray. The show ran on Nickelodeon for a total of four seasons between the years 1993 and 1996. The animated series Rocko's Modern Life follows the absurd and comedic exploits of an anthropomorphic wallaby named Rocko, who is an immigrant from Australia, and his new life in the city of O-Town. The show investigates his life in the United States in addition to the lives of his buddies, including the gluttonous steer Heffer, the neurotic turtle Filburt, and Rocko's loyal dog, Spunky. The show is plenty of adult humor, such as double entendres, innuendos, and sarcastic social commentary on current events. In the late 1980s, Joe Murray initially designed the title character for a comic book series that was never published. Years later, Murray begrudgingly presented the idea to Nickelodeon, which was looking for edgier cartoonists for their new Nicktoons block. The personnel at the network were given a lot of leeway to be creative, and the writers were encouraged to write for both adults and children. The architecture in the program is drawn in a crooked style, which is reflected in the animation. In addition, Murray chose many up-and-coming voice performers, such as Tom Kenny and Carlos Alazraqui, who have since gone on to achieve a great deal of success in their careers. This was the fourth Nicktoon that was ever shown for the first time. In an interview, Kenny reflected on the significance of the show by noting, "Rocko's Modern Life was just one of those shows that was the first break for a lot of individuals who went on to do other stuff in the business."
