Tatort is a long-running crime drama series set in various locations of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The program airs on ARD in Germany, ORF 2 in Austria, and SF1 in Switzerland. On November29,1970, the pilot episode aired. The series' opening sequence has stayed consistent over the years, which is remarkable for a long-running TV show. Each of the regional TV networks that make up ARD, as well as ORF and SF, creates its own episodes, each featuring a different police inspector, some of whom have become cultural icons, such as the now-discontinued Schimanski.
