Spawn is an animated television series that was created by Todd McFarlane and broadcast on HBO during the years 1997 to 1999. As a film series, it is also made available on DVD for purchase. It was nominated for an Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Animation Program and won the award for that category. It is based on the Spawn comic series, which was published by Image Comics. Since 2009, a completely separate animated series dubbed Spawn: The Animation has been in production, with Keith David playing the part of the eponymous character once again. The television show, much like the accompanying comic book, contains violent depictions of violence, explicit sexual content, and copious usage of the F-word. On the list of the greatest comic book cartoons of all time compiled by IGN, Spawn, created by Todd McFarlane, came in at number five.
