Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a live-action television series created by Toei Company in Japan. It is based, albeit very loosely, on the Spider-Man character from Marvel Comics. The television program consisted of a total of 41 episodes, all of which were shown on Tokyo Channel 12 at 19:30 Japan Standard Time (JST) on Wednesdays between May 17, 1978 and March 14, 1979. At the Toei Manga Matsuri film festival on July22,1978, a theatrical episode was also screened as part of the event. The English subtitled versions of all 41 episodes and the movie were released to Marvel's official website starting on March5,2009, and continuing until December24, 2009. The premise of the show and the genesis of the character's abilities were both wholly different from the source material, despite the fact that Toei's interpretation of the character wore the same suit as his Marvel counterpart. In this form of Spider-Man, he not only fought on his own, but he also controlled a massive robot known as Leopardon, which he would call upon to battle gigantic versions of the show's antagonists. Toei would use the notion of huge robots in later iterations of their own Super Sentai franchise, which they called "Super Sentai."
