Spy drama Spooks: Code 9 debuted on BBC Three in 2008 as a counterintelligence procedural. Following on from BBC Fiction's long-running spy drama Spooks, controller Jane Tranter commissioned the series to target a 16-24-year-old demographic with a "more maverick, younger perspective." New recruits to MI5 who "follow a different rule book" are the focus of the new series.
