The anime series Space Battleship Yamato I, II, and III inspired the creation of Star Blazers, an American animated television series that is an adaptation of the original Japanese anime series. 1979 marked the year when the United States began airing Star Blazers for the very first time. It is significant as it was the first popular English-translated anime to have an overarching plot and storyline that needed the episodes to be watched in the sequence in which they were first broadcast. It dealt with topics that were somewhat more mature than those that were covered in other productions intended at the same audience at the same time. Because of this, further arc-based and plot-driven anime translations were made possible as a result of what this did.
