Star Trek: The Animated Series is set in the Star Trek world after Star Trek: The Original Series. The animated series aired as Star Trek, but it's recognized by this longer moniker to distinguish it from the live-action version. The success of the original live-action series in syndication and fan demand for a Star Trek resurrection led to The Animated Series from 1973–1974 and Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979. The 'TAS' series was the original cast's last episodic portrayal of the characters until the "cartoon-like" graphics of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary in 1992 and its sequel Star Trek: Judgment Rites in 1993. Both appeared after the cast's last movie together in 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. TAS won Star Trek's first Emmy.
