This satirical sitcom was inspired by Jerrod's relationships with his say-anything, contrarian father, his therapist-in-training girlfriend, his always-hustling brother, and his mother who is always, always, always right with Jesus. Jerrod and his girlfriend Maxine (Amber West) have taken the next step and moved in together. They are a typical young couple trying to make it in the city. They are intelligent, ambitious, and intend to establish a good life together. The only obstacle in their path is their family. Jerrod and Maxine's ability to navigate the borders of romance, family, and sanity is put to the test by Jerrod's larger-than-life brother, Bobby (Lil Rel Howery), and his overbearing and passionate parents, David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine.
