The Cosby Show
The Cosby Show aired on NBC from September20, 1984 to April30,1992. It starred Bill Cosby. The sitcom focuses on a Brooklyn, New York, upper-middle-class African-American family. According to TV Guide, the show "revived the sitcom genre and NBC's ratings fortunes" Originally, ABC rejected the show. Entertainment Weekly said The Cosby Show helped create more African-American-themed sitcoms, from In Living Color to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The Cosby Show was based on Cosby's family-themed standup act. Home Improvement and Everyone Loves Raymond followed suit. The show generated the six-season spinoff A Different World.
