The Day Today is a surreal British spoof of current affairs television shows devised by comedians Armando Iannucci and Chris Morris and first shown in 1994. It's a remake of the BBC Radio 4 show On the Hour, which aired between 1991 and 1992. Morris, Iannucci, Steven Wells, Andrew Glover, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, David Quantick, and the cast wrote On the Hour. Peter Baynham joined the writing team for The Day Today, and Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews replaced Lee and Herring. For The Day Today, the main cast from On the Hour was kept. The Day Today is made up of six half-hour programs and a number of shorter five-minute slots that serve as promos for the lengthier pieces. The six half-hour episodes first aired on BBC2 from January 19 to February 23, 1994. Morris won the British Comedy Award for Best Newcomer in 1994 for his role in The Day Today. After being released on VHS, all six episodes are now available on BBC DVD.
