Stef Foster, a police officer, and her partner Lena Adams, a vice principal, have a close-knit, loving family with Stef's biological son Brandon and their adopted twins Mariana and Jesus. Lena meets Callie, a hardened foster kid with a horrible past, and their lives are upended. Callie and her brother, Jude, are welcomed into Lena and Stef's house, thinking it will only be for a few weeks until a more permanent placement can be found. However, life had other plans for the Fosters.
