The History Plays of William Shakespeare have been adapted into a series of films for British television called The Hollow Crown. The first season is an adaptation of Shakespeare's second historical tetralogy, known as the Henriad. It consists of the following plays: Richard II, Henry IV, Part I and Henry IV, Part II (both of which are presented in the series as if they were one film), and Henry V. The subtitle for the second season, "The Wars of the Roses," is an allusion to the show's overall breadth. It is adapted from Shakespeare's first tetralogy, which consists of Richard III, Henry VI: Part I, Henry VI: Part II, and Henry VI: Part III (which is split up into two films within the series).
