The Tribe is a New Zealand/British post-apocalyptic fictitious TV series aimed mostly at youths. It is set in a near-future in which all adults have been wiped out by a fatal virus, leaving the world's youngsters to fend for themselves. The episode focuses on an unknown city populated by tribes of children and teenagers. It was mostly shot in and around Wellington, New Zealand. Raymond Thompson and Harry Duffin devised the series, which was developed and produced by the Cloud 9 Screen Entertainment Group in collaboration with Channel 5 in the United Kingdom. It has aired on over 40 broadcast networks throughout the world. It premiered on Channel 5 on April24,1999, and soon earned a big fan base. From 1999 through2003, five series and 260 half-hour episodes were produced. Series 6 was supposed to begin filming in2003, however Channel 5's Nick Wilson and Raymond Thompson believed that "while the show was still performing well, the cast was getting too elderly and the series was beginning to stretch the fundamental concept." They thought the characters were no longer children who had to fend for themselves in the absence of adults. As a result, the show was canceled. The final two episodes broadcast on Channel 5 on September6, 2003.
