A teenage girl named Katie is unable to come to terms with the death of her mother. Gymnastics, schoolwork, and friendships have all faded from Katie's life. When she is invited to monkeysit her science teacher's Capuchin monkey, Gibby, in the summer, everything changes. In many ways, caring for the monkey transforms her life. Katie's enthusiasm for life is rekindled by Gibby's upbeat demeanor.
