Roald Dahl's Esio Trot
Mr. Hoppy is a quiet elderly man who lives alone in an apartment complex. Mrs. Silver, a woman who lives below him, has been his hidden love for many years. Mr. Hoppy leans over his balcony and converses politely with Mrs. Silver on a regular basis, but he is too hesitant to express his feelings. Mr. Hoppy wishes he could tell Mrs. Silver how he feels, but he can't seem to get the words out of his mouth. Mrs. Silver owns a little turtle named Alfie as a pet, and she adores him. Mrs. Silver tells Mr. Hoppy one morning that, despite having had Alfie for a long time, her pet has only grown a smidgeon and gained only 3 ounces in weight. She admits that she wishes she knew how to raise her small tortoise Alfie into a larger, more respectable tortoise. Mr. Hoppy suddenly comes up with a way to grant Mrs. Silver's wish and win her love.
