Orphaned at the age of 16, Tohru Honda receives an invitation to reside in the home of her classmate, the handsome lad Sohma Yuki, as well as his cousins, Kyo, aged 16, and Shigure, aged 27. However, in order to break the curse, these young men and other members of their family (both immediate and extended) must be hugged by someone of the opposing gender. If they do so, they will be transformed into animals that correspond to the Chinese Zodiac. Tohru is having a wonderful time as she gets to know everyone in her big family, especially Yuki and Kyo, better through both everyday and outlandish experiences. For her, life is one big adventure. But the curse placed on the Sohma family is nothing to make light of; in addition to awful cruelty, it may cause unimaginable emotional anguish.
