While working on Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in his last weeks, a fictionalized depiction of those days is presented. It's 1824, and the year is. Beethoven is rushing to complete his latest symphony. However, he has been afflicted by deafness, loneliness, and emotional tragedy since his last accomplishment. Help for the composer is urgently required from a copyist. One of the characters in the story is Anna Holtz, an aspiring composer and conservatory student at the University of California, Berkeley. The erratic Beethoven initially doubts Anna's ability to help him with his masterpiece, but eventually grows to trust her and develop a fondness for her. By the time the piece is staged, her presence in his life is a must. In addition to correcting his blunders, she has such a thorough knowledge of his profession that she is able to gain access to his private life.
