Heidi, a Swiss orphan aged eight, is given to her mountain-dwelling grandfather by her aunt. She is subsequently kidnapped by her aunt from her grandfather in order to live with the rich Sesemann family in Frankfurt, Germany, as a companion to Klara, a secluded, wheelchair-bound crippled girl.
