Le Havre
After years of attempting to become a published novelist, Marcel Marx has decided to give up on his writing goals and has migrated to the coastal city of Le Havre in France. He has a basic existence, centered on his wife Arletty, his favorite tavern, and his not-particularly lucrative job as a shoeshiner. As Arletty falls ill, Marcel's path intersects with that of a young illegal immigrant from Africa who requires Marcel's assistance in order to avoid being apprehended by the police officers.
