Bellisario created the legal drama television series JAG, which is produced by Belisarius Productions in partnership with Paramount Network Television and conceived by Bellisario. It was co-produced by NBC Productions for the first season. After NBC canceled JAG on May22,1996, one episode of the pilot episode remained unaired, which was designed as a Top Gun meets A Few Good Men hybrid. On January3,1997, CBS took up the series as a midseason replacement. The decision by CBS to telecast JAG was a wise one, as the show's popularity grew over time and it was renewed for an additional nine seasons. NCIS, in turn, created another blockbuster show in the form of NCIS: Los Angeles, thanks to the success of JAG. Over the course of ten seasons, a total of 227 episodes of JAG were created, with the show airing in over 100 countries during its fifth season. Early in1999, JAG entered syndication, and it continues to air regularly today.
