Ken and his mother had just relocated from Kansas. He strikes up a conversation with a young lady named Julie, not realizing that she is the object of Tom's intense affection. Sensei Lee, whose brother was slain by a rookie cop named Billy, is teaching Tom karate. Lee is also Tom's mentor in the military. Billy has subsequently worked as a janitor at the school where Ken, Julie, and Tom are students. Billy assists Ken in learning how to defend himself when he is beaten up by Tom for talking to Julie again, which eventually results in a fight between student vs. student and sensei vs. sensei between the students.
