Gladiator
The death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius in the year 180 throws the Roman Empire into disarray. Maximus is one of the most talented and respected generals in the Roman army and a significant advisor to the emperor. Maximus is scheduled for execution when Marcus' cunning son Commodus ascends the throne. Slave traffickers seize him after he has escaped. Maximus, rechristened Spaniard and forced to become a gladiator, must fight to the death for the enjoyment of paying crowds.
